6x6 Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout with Jess
Hey friends!
I'm excited to be back on the Brutus Monroe blog today with a mixed media layout. Most of my projects have been cards, so I figured it was time to spice things up a bit. I hope you love the project today!
To get started, I grabbed a 6x6 piece of patterned paper and applied some opaque white gesso to the lower two thirds. This provides a waterproof surface to work on and allows me to build up color and texture on top of the paper, rather than having the mediums bleed and soak into the paper.
Next, I used some texture paste and the May Stencil of the Month to add some awesome dimensional texture to the lower two thirds. Once this was dry, I blended on a little Black Soot Distress Oxide ink to the edge where it met the paper - I feel like this give it a little more interest and depth. Then, I sprayed on some Distress Oxide Spray in Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers. I blotted up the excess and let it dry.
I used the Square Alphabet Dies to cut out the word 'brothers' in black and green card stock. I paired the green letters with the black squares to make the word pop against the black. I layered these over my image. I covered up my image so it wouldn't get messy and did some splattering with the Calla Lily Aqua Pigment. I love this shimmery color!
I added a few little embellishments I had on hand and tucked in some coordinating thread for a little more interest. That finished off my layout and I'm so happy with the way it turned out. Mixed media and layouts really aren't too different from what we do on our cards - you should definitely give it a try sometime if you haven't already!
Hugs and love,
