Birthday Bears
Hello all! Jessica here from Purple Puppy Papercrafting today with a card using the new Shimmer Flakes! O M G! Have you seen these yet?! They are incredible - sparkly, shimmery, shiny - guaranteed to make you smile! I just had to use them and let me tell you - they do not disappoint! Let’s get started!
I thought that the Shimmer Flakes would be good to use on a birthday card, and the Birthday Bears Stamp set is just too cute!! I love those little critters in this set.
To use the shimmer flakes, I put a 2” x 5 ½” strip of double sided adhesive down onto my card panel, burnished it really well with my bone folder and then removed the liner to expose the adhesive. These shimmer flakes have endless possibilities! You can use them on adhesive die cuts, over an entire background, so many ways to create shimmer and sparkle!
Once I had the adhesive exposed - I took one color at a time and applied it to the adhesive starting at the top of strip and moving down with each color to create a rainbow effect. I tried to overlap each color a little bit so there wasn’t a distinct line in between colors, but these flakes are so forgiving once on your project that I don’t think that really mattered. After each color was put down, I used my fingers to press it into the adhesive, so I could shake off the excess. I just put the excess into a separate jar because it had all the colors mixed together - beautiful!
Now this is when the magic really happens! After you have all your colors applied, you need to run the panel through your die cutting machine to help press the flakes into the adhesive - it really sets off the shimmer when you do this!
Look at that shimmer!!! I seriously want to put this stuff on everything now.
Now, I made a goof here, before I put the adhesive onto my paper, I drew a line with a pencil to help me line it up straight. Well duh, the pencil showed through after I took the liner off! It is very faint and you can barely see it under the shimmer flakes, but I wasn’t happy with that, so I trimmed the paper down to just the size of the shimmer flakes strip - minus the pencil line part. I think I ended up liking this better anyway, because then I put that onto a mint colored card panel.
I used some of the images from the Birthday Bears stamp set, stamped them with the Raven Detail Ink and then cut them out on my Brother Scan n Cut. Have you ever used the Arteza Real Brush pens? They are awesome! I used those to color the images from this set - and tried to make the balloons and little birdies match the shades of Shimmer Flakes in the background.
Once I had the images colored, I used a combination of foam tape and liquid glue to adhere my images onto my card panel and then the card panel directly onto a heavyweight card base. I used a strip of paper to stamp the “Make a Wish” sentiment, cut banner edges on one side and glued it to the panel. To finish up the card, I glued some iridescent confetti from one of the Inspiration Boxes onto the card.
I hope you enjoyed this card! Thank you for stopping by!
