Hipster Pups | Mixing Up Your Stamp Sets!
Hey, friends! Marie Nicole here again this week. I recently received a bunch of new stamp sets from Brutus Monroe and let me tell you, these new releases are fabulous! For today's cards I used the stamp set that features little Brutus Monroe himself!
These stamps are so fun all by themselves, but I decided to shake things up and mix this stamp set with another one I have, "Hipsterpotomus" by Avery Elle. My Avery Elle stamp set has some images that include a hipster hat, glasses, and bow tie. I stamped these out and added them to these little dogs here to turn them into hipsters!
Now, in my video, I show how I flipped the hat image in order to have it facing the right way on the dogs. This is a fun technique that is called "mirror stamping". Basically, you take a big stamp with a flat backside and put it down on your acrylic block BACKWARDS. Yes, backwards! So the flat backside of the stamp is facing UP. Then, you take the stamp you want to flip (so in this instance the hat) and stamp it on the flat side of the stamp on the acrylic block. Now you have that stamped image waiting on the back of your other stamp and you can just press a piece of cardstock onto it to pick up the ink.
Ok, so lets get to the cards! I stamped out the dogs and colored them in with Distress Inks. Then I fussy cut them out and added their hats with some foam adhesive. To create the little scene behind them, I used my Sizzix to cut out a little stitched journaling card out of kraft cardstock, and then stamped the dog house and some little accessories in some brown ink. This created a tone-on-tone background. I colored in the little bones on Brutus' background with my white gel pen. Then, I added the dogs to the journaling cards with some more foam adhesive.
Before I added the little journaling card scene to the card base, I used some Brutus Monroe inks and did a little ink blending on the bottom right corner and then blended it out so the color faded towards the top. Then I adhered some kids craft foam behind the journaling card, added some washi tape flags on the side, and placed it onto the card base.
Next up I added some witty sayings to the front of the cards with some different stickers I had in my stash. I just thought these little hipster sayings were so fun and they went perfectly with our little doggie friends.
That finished these cards! They would be the perfect kind of cards to send out to a friend to brighten their day or just because. Its always fun to receive some snail mail other than bills, right?
I have a process video for these cards as well. I give you a look at how to do the mirror stamping if you are interested!
So don't be afraid to mix up your stamp sets and try new things! Remember, your crafting can be anything you make it and you can always "Create Your Own Ending"!
If you want to see more of my work you can catch me on any of my social media channels!
Until next week!
