Monochromatic With a Pop of... Rainbow?
Hey friends!
I'm excited to be on the Brutus Monroe blog to share this card with you today. This project came together when I was struggling to find a little creative inspiration. Sometimes, when I'm having a hard time coming up with an idea, I just start with a background and base the next steps on how I feel after the background is completed. Let's see how this one came together!
To start things off, I stamped out the 'Hit the Brick' background in Raven Detail Ink. I used Distress Ink in Pumice Stone to blend on the grey color. Then, I added Black Soot around the edges to help give it a more finished look.
Next, I grabbed the Feathered Sentiments stamp set from the Birds of a Feather Inspiration Box. I chose the 'life is art - live yours in color' sentiment. I didn't do any stamp surgery here, but I was able to split up the sentiment into two parts! I masked off the bottom portion of the sentiment and stamped the top part with Embossing Ink in my Mini MISTI. I poured on my Raven Ultra Fine Embossing Powder and tapped off the excess powder. I used a tiny paintbrush to brush away the powder from the areas where the lower part of the sentiment overlapped the top portion and then heat set the powder. I repeated this for the bottom section and my sentiment was complete!
Next, I stamped out three butterflies from the Butterfly Sentiments 2.0 set. I colored them in a rainbow pattern using Copic markers and then used the coordinating dies to cut them out. I bent the wings of each butterfly up a bit and popped the wings up with foam tape. I arranged them on my card front and let the sticky foam tape do its job.
To finish things off, I mounted my entire card front on foam tape and adhered it to a white A2 sized card base. I love how the card is monochromatic except for the butterflies. It really gives the sentiment more impact!
Hugs and love,
